The culture and history of the parish county of 'het Bildt' is strongly reflected in the dykes crossing through the area, as well as in the characteristic areas of old reclaimed land and the unique building style of the dykehouses and farms. You can also visit the nearby 'Noord Friesland Buitendijks' salt marshes, for wich an official guide book is available written by the 'Fryske Gea' , the provincial nature conservation society.
You can also simply enjoy the peace and tranquility of the wide open country side. Along the dykes there are small art galleries to enjoy, as well as other activities such as cycling, fishing, canoeing, boattrips, and visits to the local salt water sauna,pleasant pubs and retaurants. |
